Our latest Spring/Summer 2014 collection A Season in France will have you daydreaming about Provence and the French countryside, complete with fragrant lavender fields and bright sunshine.

While there are many elements that contribute to channelling French country style into your home, we firmly believe it’s essential to lay down (quite literally) the perfect foundation.

For our inspiring French-themed Chelsea store windows, we turned to new Hackney-based company Bert & May, whose reclaimed terracotta tiles provided the ultimate transformation from high-street to chateau.

The reclaimed square Tomettes featured in our windows are sourced from central France, south of Orléans, and similar terracotta tiles start from £70 + VAT per square metre and handmade reproduction tiles are approximately £225 per square metre.

With recycled flooring on-trend, Bert & May’s artfully aged tiles are the height of style. Sourced in Europe, each tile is subtly different and offers a degree of colour variation, from pale yellows to rich reds. Warm, rustic and welcoming, the resulting look is utterly authentic and filled with the old-world charm you’re likely to come across in rural France.

Bert & May bring together a curated collection of the best original tiles, both patterned and utilitarian, for walls and floors, alongside beautiful reclaimed wood and more precious marble pieces, sourced from travels throughout Europe and the Middle East.

With stock continually changing, it’s always worth exploring the hidden gems in their London studio to feel firsthand the texture and play around with different designs for a truly bespoke finish.

Plus, Bert & May offers a bespoke reproduction service for the times when their treasure haul doesn’t quite cover your needs. Think individually handmade tiles which retain the warm tones and rich patina of the reclaimed tiles that inspired them.
